Places

Know where you want to wake up.

Cape Town changes from one side of the mountain to the other. Here is how we think about it.

Atlantic Seaboard

Clifton and Camps Bay

White beaches, cold water and the best sunsets in the city, with the Twelve Apostles behind you. This is where to stay if you plan to do very little, very well.

Central Cape Town

City Bowl and Bo-Kaap

Restaurants, galleries and the coloured streets of the Bo-Kaap, all under Table Mountain. Good for a first visit and for anyone who likes to walk to dinner.

Southern Suburbs

Constantia

Old wine farms, tall trees and more shelter from the summer wind. Quieter and greener, and still close to both the city and the coast.

The peninsula

Hout Bay and Noordhoek

A working harbour, a long empty beach and Chapman's Peak Drive between them. A place for horses, boats and slower mornings.

False Bay

Simon's Town and Muizenberg

Warmer water, a naval town and the penguins at Boulders. An easy day out, or a calmer base for families.

The Winelands

Franschhoek and Stellenbosch

About an hour from the city. Cellars, long lunches and mountains on every side, and well worth a night or two if you have the time.
